Bamboo Gods and Iron Men is a martial arts comedy set in the Philippines that by default comes under the Blaxploitation category. Produced by American International Pictures.
It also featured some of the Philippines most respected and famous actors, Chiquito,[1] Vic Diaz[2] and Eddie Garcia.,[3] a veteran of more than 339 films.[3]
An interesting fact of this movie is that two of the people involved in it, actor and musician Tito Sotto and veteran actor Chiquito were to enter into politics in the Philippines. Tito Sotto later became a senator in the Philippines Congress and serve two terms in 1992 to 2004 .[4] Chiquito would eventually become Vice-Mayor of Makati[1] as well as well as seeking election as a senator in 1992.[5]

James Iglehart plays a black American prize fighter Cal Jefferson who is on a honeymoon holiday with his new wife played by Shirley Washington. While on holiday in Hong Kong, they come across a drowning Chinese man, so Cal Jefferson jumps into the sea to save him. This now revived and very grateful mute man turns out to be someone they cannot get rid of. They finally get rid of him or so it seems. They purchase an item in Hong Kong which becomes the center of a gang's attention. The gang led by Kenneth Metcalfe will stop at nothing to retrieve the item. They leave Hong Kong for Manila, the Philippines and find themselves being attacked with the mute Chinese man coming to their assistance.[6]
